Client: Royal Shakespeare Theatre Company
Project Scope:
The partial demolition, structural alterations and facade retention of the famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. The scope of works comprised of the partial demolition and major structural alteration of the Grade II listed building on behalf of Royal Shakespeare Company through their project managers MACE. An element of the works required demolition of the former riverside restaurant which necessitated a formal consent from the Environment Agency to execute this section of the works.
Project Constraints & Challenges:
Logistics around demolition of major structures in a live manufacturing facility, including:
- Protection of Grade II listed building
- Demolishing structures adjacent the river
- Working in a busy tourist areas / city centre
Achievements
- A floating pontoon barge was constructed in the River Avon with a fully detailed traffic management scheme for live river traffic
- Completed on time and to budget
