Project Scope:
Demolition of the former Civic Centre site in Coventry city centre, consisting of 4nr. concrete frame buildings up to 14-storeys with podium slab car parks and retained listed basement structures.
Project Constraints & Challenges:
- A hybrid of demolition methods and techniques including de-build, high-reach and complex temporary works in a city centre location
- Protection and maintenance of retained Grade II listed basement structures
- Western Power live substation adjacent to the demolition of a high-rise tower
- Licensed removal and disposal of notifiable asbestos containing materials
- Logistics associated with high-rise demolition in a city centre location adjacent to operational magistrate and crown courts buildings
Achievements:
- Successful liaison with Western Power maintaining HV substation supply
- Working above and around listed buildings without damage
- Achieving high-rise demolition and dismantling within severely restricted zones
- Uninterrupted operation of live court buildings throughout the demolition phases
