On 19th July DSM had an outstanding showing with the Considerate Constructors visiting our Eggborough Power Station site. The day came with great success as Monitor Simon Oak scored DSM Demolition with “TOP” marks. Massive congratulations to all involved!

Project description, context, location and relevant constraints

The project is the demolition of the former Eggborough Power Station in East Yorkshire. It is situated on the A19, approximately 2 miles from the M62. The Client is the St Francis Group. The project commenced in July 2019, and is due to be complete in Spring 2023. The profile has been raised to an international level, when the blow down of the existing cooling towers was picked up by CNN in the USA, in addition to extensive coverage by the British media.

Constraints
The major constraints identified previously were the environmental impacts, the close proximity of a floodplain and the reputation of the contractor during the high-risk activities such as the blow down of the cooling towers.

Executive Summary

It is a pleasure to visit such a well organised site. The ethos of all of the employees seen on the visit is a credit to the company, and is exactly what CCS would like to see on all of its sites.

The liaison and interaction with the local community, on what is a high profile and high risk contract, is first class. The innovation and best practice ideas identified on the previous visits remain in use, and have benefited the works significantly. The close working relationships with both the Police and HSE are beneficial to all parties.

It is pleasing to see that major efforts are made to minimise the impact to the environment, not just on site, but also by challenging off-site partners to up their game in this area.

The investment in the workforce, both financially and ethically, is encouraging, and it is just reward that this seems to be paying off. If this carries on, it
is clear to see that the company will remain in good hands for many years to come.

Many thanks to James for his time today. It was an enjoyable and an educational visit.
