Project Scope:

Demolition of the former Civic Centre site in Coventry city centre, consisting of 4nr. concrete frame buildings up to 14-storeys with podium slab car parks and retained listed basement structures.

Project Constraints & Challenges:

  • A hybrid of demolition methods and techniques including de-build, high-reach and complex temporary works in a city centre location
  • Protection and maintenance of retained Grade II listed basement structures
  • Western Power live substation adjacent to the demolition of a high-rise tower
  • Licensed removal and disposal of notifiable asbestos containing materials
  • Logistics associated with high-rise demolition in a city centre location adjacent to operational magistrate and crown courts buildings

Achievements:

  • Successful liaison with Western Power maintaining HV substation supply
  • Working above and around listed buildings without damage
  • Achieving high-rise demolition and dismantling within severely restricted zones
  • Uninterrupted operation of live court buildings throughout the demolition phases
