On 1st August at 8.01am, DSM Demolition successfully imploded four of the eight redundant cooling towers at the former Eggborough Power Plant.
The towers, each 90m tall with a combined weight of 44,000 tonnes were demolished on Yorkshire Day, amidst stringent security measures. A 350m exclusion zone and road closures were set-up and manned around the site for the protection of the public and third parties. The nine months of planning leading up to the works, and continual collaboration between DSM and Selby District Council, The Police, HSE and the Statutory Undertakers ensured a totally successful and deliberate outcome.
